Olive House
Studies for a house where one coloured volume sits on a plain white base.

Parti
A coloured volume on a white base
Two directions were drawn against the same brief, and both work the same way: a largely solid white ground floor, with the living rooms above it in a single distinct volume, so the house has one clear figure rather than four elevations. What changes is what that volume is. In the first it is dark grey with a folded roof that tilts up towards the view. In the second it is faced in olive and carried on a colonnade of slim vertical fins — set close enough to read as a screen from the street, open enough to see straight out from inside, and deep enough to shade the glazing behind them for most of the day.
