Blade Tower
An apartment tower where each floor slab flies out as a blade, and the blade is the shading.

Every floor throws out a blade
Balconies in this city are routinely drawn too shallow to use and then fitted with a drying rack. Here the floor slab itself is thrown out past the glass line as a deep, sharp-edged blade, alternating side to side up the building so no balcony sits directly under another. Because the blade is the slab there is no applied balustrade doing the work and nothing bolted on to fail later, and because it is deep it shades the whole glazed wall beneath it. The result reads from the street as a stack of white planes rather than as seven identical floors. Behind the blades a single timber-faced bay runs the full height to mark the circulation core.
